I’ve heard plenty of people say that their third child is the hardest adjustment. Maybe it’s the new juggling act and the fact that we’re finally outnumbered, but three is tough, indeed. Throw in a completely disrupted schedule with older brothers and extra appointments, and establishing any sleep routine is dang-well near impossible.
Sleep hit the fan around 3.5 months old, and Arthur wasn’t happy. He would sleep for 40 minutes and then wake up for 40 minutes and repeat that gruelsome process all day long. His night-time waking was about every 2 hours, and I was a zombie– coming from a mom who hasn’t slept a full night in over three years. It takes a lot to exhaust me these days. And I was pooped.
Luckily, I remembered seeing a baby sleep consultant at our last Bloom pregnancy event for the local City Mom’s Blog. I found her info that I stored away and reached out immediately. Like a Dream LLC is ran by local Madison mom, Jami, and she sympathized with me from the start.
Having someone local help me felt like a great option to be able to meet in person and make that extra connection. Starting up front and honest, she told me that this can take time, and with Arthur’s extra conditions– even longer.
I think I knew I needed extra help around the same time that I accepted the fact that I had to start pulling out of more activities and commitments to stay home. It became impossible to do anything without Arthur getting so fussy– nothing was enjoyable anymore.
After dipping my toe in my existing pool of baby-sleep knowledge, I just wasn’t comfortable jumping all in without more guidance. I didn’t want to cause any more disturbance or pain in the already tough few months of Arthur’s life.

Ahhh! I remember those days…it does get a little easier, but prepare to be a mom-bie again when they are teenagers and driving. Hang in there!
Those days are tough, but try to get plenty of rest yourself during nap time, you'll get through it!
We have finally gotten in our “baby 3” groove but it took a long time. My greatest baby sleep tricks ever came from a friends sleep consultant. Cheers to a good night's rest.
