Chocolate Chip Cookies

In the Charles home, we believe that chocolate chip cookies should not only be LARGE, but also jam-packed with CHOCOLATE. Extra chocolate chips make this recipe a family favorite. Instead of bite-sized cookies, use this recipe to make large heaping scoops of cookie dough that will turn into cookies around the size of the palm of your hand. Bigger is better when it comes to cookies.

Letting kids help suggestion: Baking with kids can be stressful. And if you’ve ever heard me talk about it before- you know I mention getting a specific “baking with kids” eye twitch going. But I’ll share a tip with you that has helped me embrace moments in the kitchen with kids. Choose one simple step. Premeasure an ingredient and let them dump it into the bowl, or let them finish with the chocolate chips. They’ll be thrilled to be joining along and you won’t have to think of it as an entire production that will lead to chaos and mess. One step, that’s it.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 and lay parchment paper on cookie sheet.
  2. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract with a mixer until consistency is even. Turn off mixer, add eggs and resume mixing. Then combine flour, baking soda, and salt and pour into the mixer slowly while running on low speed. Pour in chocolate chips and mix just until combined.
  3. Scoop large, heaping spoonfuls of dough onto parchment paper.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges are just starting to brown. Store extras in a sealed container and enjoy through the week or sneak into lunchboxes for a sweet surprise!

If you’re like me and love to snack on the cookie dough before it’s baked, take a look at my recipe for Easy, Edible Cookie Dough! Perfect to freeze into little dough balls and have ready for a craving.
