Play Dough

You’ll never buy the store bought stuff again once you realize just how easy it is to whip up your own play dough at home. Better yet, if you have essential oils that are kid-safe, you can make a deliciously scented play dough, too! Hand out cookie cutters, rolling pins, and kid scissors for a fun time playing with this recipe.

  • Servings: 1 cup

Add 5 or so drops of lavender, lemon, or orange essential oil to make a scented play dough.

Supplies

  • 1 cup of flour (whatever kind you have on hand)
  • 1/4 cup of salt
  • 1 tbsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup of warm water
  • 10-15 drops of food coloring

Directions

  1. Mix together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a bowl
  2. Measure 1/2 cup of warm water from the tap in a liquid measuring cup, and add in your drops of color to the water. Stir to combine
  3. While stirring, slowly pour the colored water into the flour mixture. Stir until combined, then knead with your hands
  4. Store in a sealed ziplock bag or by wrapping in cling wrap and sealing tightly
