Homemade Magic Rug Cleaner

This post is short and sweet, because I wasn’t planning on sharing this, but it was SO awesome, I just had to! We had a pretty old and dingy rug that we were using as our new rug’s cushion pad, and the time came for it to be tossed. Heartbroken, I tried a last ditch attempt at cleaning it, but with hardwood throughout our home, we don’t have any type of carpet cleaner on hand. Google to the rescue, and with this mix, ALL of the stains and dinginess is GONE! We’re talking wine, food, mud, dog stains, you name it- and now my rug looks new. So here it is:

Homemade Rug Cleaner
Spray bottle
1 tsp dish washing liquid
1 tbsp white vinegar
1 cup warm water
1 tsp baking soda
Clean absorbent towel
Dish Brush

Mix all of the ingredients OVER THE SINK into the spray bottle (it’s going to overflow and bubble over). Cap it quickly. Vacuum the rug and disturb the stains with a dish brush or rough sponge. Spray the mix onto the stains and then blot with the absorbent towel. Wah-lah! It’s crazy how simple and well this worked, so I had to share it! I don’t even have any great pictures from this, so here’s a picture of how this made me feel. 🙂
