Here is an easy DIY project that will only take a half hour from start to finish. And another bonus: it only costs a couple of dollars! It’s so easy, my two year old son helped me finish this project while the baby napped. And we really needed some garden markers for our plants that we planted pretty late this year thanks to the crazy Midwestern weather.
Chalkboard Garden Markers

Ingredients
- A pack of wooden shims (or paint sticks, rulers, popsicle sticks, whatever!)
- Chalkboard paint
- A permanent white chalk pencil
- A paint brush
- A paper bag or paper towel to prevent mess 😉
Directions
- Prepare your shims on a paper bag or paper towel to avoid getting paint where you don’t want it!
- Take inventory of the plants and vegetables you wish to label.
- With your list handy, paint enough shims for each mark. The chalkboard paint should cover fairly consistently and only need one coat.
- Let the shims dry and use the chalk pencil to write each label (I recommend writing on the front and back of each shim), and you’re done!
- Go ahead and place the finished garden markers in the appropriate spots and enjoy a super simple homemade touch!

Love these Kyla! Such a cute DIY project:) Your blog looks great! xoxo Rachel
