Travel Essentials

If road tripping was considered an Olympic sport (and it probably should be), I’d get the gold medal with these essentials.

Traveling long distances by car is certainly not easy, but it also doesn’t have to be hard. I’ve been on multiple road trips with my husband and four kids, so I’ve learned which travel hacks are actually essential, and which ones you can forget. These products have been SO useful for trips that are just a few hours and those that are longer than a day.

1. Travel pillow

I feel like it’s inevitable for at least one of my kids to fall asleep in the car, no matter how long the drive is. But on those particularly long road trips, they can get a little irritable if they don’t sleep well and are tired. So this travel pillow can really be a life saver. And let’s be honest, it’s nice to have for me, too.

2. Trash can

Whether or not you’re a person who uses the pockets on the bottom of the car door as a little trash can, those are not big enough to hold the trash that a family produces on a road trip. So I just place this trash can in the middle of all four kids and they can throw any trash in there until we get somewhere to throw it all away!

3. Car tissue holder

Tissues are one of those things that you don’t want to go without or are scrambling to find when it’s too late. This tissue holder is so convenient and just clings onto the passenger seat sun visor or the back of the seat. (You can also use the holder for wet wipes!)

4. Trunk organizer

After being in the car for hours on a road trip, things can get messy. It’s inevitable that someone is going to misplace something somewhere in the car and you won’t be able to find it until you stop. But this trunk organizer is SO handy to keep track of the essentials and keep them readily accessible.

5. First Aid Kit

It’s so important to always have a first aid kit in the car! Even if you’re not road tripping and you’re taking a quick trip into town to grab groceries, you never know when an emergency might happen. Any first aid kit will do, but try to look for one with the most supplies that would be most useful in any case. Or you can make your own with this case!

6. Roadside Assistance Emergency Kit

Special mention is this emergency roadside assistance kit. We’ve never had to use this before (knock on wood!), but it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Let me know any other essentials you recommend or love having on road trips!
