Homemade Instant Oatmeal

The instant flavored oatmeal packets are one of my toddlers’ favorite breakfasts around here. Be it the ease that it grips a spoon for a wobbly toddler hand or the sugary goodness that’s hidden inside, it’s become a go-to breakfast staple to throw fruit into and serve. Meanwhile, mom can sip on some caffeine and wake up! Making your own and getting the right texture isn’t as easy as just whipping up plain oats. But, I think I’ve perfected a homemade version that is definitely worth sharing with the masses. So here it is!

I choose to make mine into baggies to resemble the packet portion size. But you also could pre-make this and store it in a full container to scoop out to your liking! Wah-lah!

Ingredients

  • Old Fashioned Oats (however much you want to pre-make into packets, half will be blended)
  • Non-dairy creamer
  • Brown sugar (optional)

Take half of the quantity of oats you want, and blend them to a fine sand texture in your blender. This trick will make the oatmeal thick and sticky, similar to the packets! Organize your work space to have all ingredients available to grab, and open your bags for an easier preparation.

Directions

  1. In each bag, add: 1/4 cup oats, 2 tbsp blended oats, 1/2 tbsp non dairy creamer, 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
  2. Shake each bag mix, and store them in a container
  3. When you’re ready to prepare a bag: dump into a microwave safe bowl, add 1/4-1/2 cup water (depending on consistency you desire), microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds
