Overnight French Toast Bake

This overnight French toast bake is our favorite breakfast for Christmas morning, given that there’s little work in the morning and enough to pass around for plenty of overnight guests. Each pan will serve ~10 people, and it’s easy to double!

Regardless of the ease of this recipe, this French toast bake is still a fan favorite for its sweet flavor as well.

This recipe is easy to double, so it’s great for serving to a crowd!

Ingredients

  • 1 stick of butter
  • One loaf Italian bread
  • 9 eggs
  • 1/2 c granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 c heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 c whole milk
  • 1 c brown sugar
  • 1 c pecan pieces
  • 1/2 c flour
  • Powdered sugar (to sprinkle)
  • Maple syrup

Directions

  1. Spray a large baking dish with non-stick spray
  2. Slice bread into 1.5 inch slices, then place the slices in the baking dish in rows, slightly overlapping them
  3. Mix the eggs, milk, whipping cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl, then pour the mixture over the slices evenly
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight
  5. In the morning, preheat the oven to 375, remove the pan from the fridge, and let stand at room temperature
  6. Mix the brown sugar, flour, pecans, and a pinch of salt in a bowl
  7. Dice or grate the stick of butter on top and mix it into the mixture until it’s the same consistency, then sprinkle over the bread
  8. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes (or until the liquid is set and tops are browned)
  9. Finally, dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup…and enjoy your company!

And like all traditions…it will undoubtedly end with a good ole food-induced couch nap!
